The long-awaited high-performance variants of the BMW 3 and 4 Series have been finally revealed online; the new M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe will make their first public appearance at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit next month.
Both cars share the same powertrain: an inline-six twin-turbo 3.0-liter petrol engine producing 431 horsepower and a maximum of 550 Nm of torque and mated to an optional 7-speed M DCT transmission or a standard six-speed manual gearbox.
The new M3 is around 80 kilograms lighter than the outgoing E90/E92 model thanks to different weight-saving measures. The CFRP roof alone brings weight savings of 5 kg for the M3 and more than 6 kg for the M4.
BMW offers “M Dynamic Mode” – a sub function of the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system – allows greater wheel slip and therefore easy drifting for the rear-wheel drive enthusiast.
The M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe will go on sale starting early summer as 2015 models.
