BMW celebrates 30 years of the M5

BMW is celebrating 30 years of the M5 by taking a look back over the previous five generations of the unique sports sedan before ending with a surprise (a special edition model, perhaps?).

The first BMW M5 saw the light of day at the Geneva Motor Show in February 1985. It featured BMW’s M88 engine, which now has a new address and a new name: M88/3. The water-cooled 3.5-liter six-cylinder inline engine developed 286 horsepower and managed 245 km/h with the accelerator to the floor.

Before the German automaker chronicles the story of previous generation M5s ahead of the big “surprise”, enjoy the video below that features an F10 M5 doing what it does best.
