April 19, 2015 – The Volkswagen Golf R and Subaru WRX STI are two closely matched sports cars; they both have a clever all-wheel drive system and while the Golf R enjoys 20 extra horsepower, in this video, they both have 280 horsepower as Volkswagen detunes the Golf R for the South African market, where it’s hot.

So, both are all-wheel drive and produce the same amount of power, but – and that’s a big but – the WRX STI is equipped with a manual gearbox, whereas the Golf R has VW’s DSG dual-clutch gearbox. Will that make much of a difference in a drag race? Find out in the video.
