Hennessey does not sound as fancy and French as Bugatti, but the company can surely produce a vehicle capable of rivaling Bugatti’s crown jewel: the Veyron.
It all began five years ago when John Hennessey decided to fit a twin-turbo 7.0-liter Corvette V8 engine in a stretched Lotus Elise; he called it the Hennessey Venom GT, and two-and-a-half years later, managed to sell one.
Today, Hennessey’s supercar broke the Guinness World Record when it sprinted from 0 to 300km/h in a two-run average of 13.63 seconds. The record-breaking event was attended by Guinness Book of World Records officials at Ellington Airport, southeast of Houston.
“I have never ridden in anything this fast,” said Guinness official Philip Robertson. “The acceleration is absolutely amazing.”
The American company only plans to produce 29 Venom GTs; each vehicle is custom built and takes about six months to complete.
