Infiniti adopts new naming strategy

Infiniti has an announced a new naming system for its range of passenger cars starting from 2014.

The system uses the letter “Q” for sedans, coupes and convertibles, and the letters “QX” for SUVs and crossovers, with two digits at the end, representing hierarchy within the range.

The first model to receive the Japanese brand’s new nomenclature is the next-generation G Sedan, which is set to publicly appear for the first time during the Detroit Motor Show next month; the G Sedan will be called the Q50 from now on.

Infiniti’s new naming system will spread across the entire lineup, with the G Coupe and Convertible renamed to Q60, the M Sedan will become the Q70, the QX will be changed to QX80, the FX to QX70, the JX to QX60, and the EX to QX50.

“This strategic change reflects Infiniti’s desire for clarity and cohesiveness.” according to a press release by the Japanese automaker.
