Production-ready Porsche 918 Spyder leaked

After a long agonizing wait, testing videos, and a bunch of smoking-hot prototype images with Martini Racing livery; we finally got our first sneak peek of the production-ready Porsche 918 Spyder.

Looking virtually similar to the 918 Spyder concept, which made its public debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, the production version introduces some minor exterior changes including new exhaust pipes positioned behind the driver’s and passenger’s heads (previously integrated into the side skirts right in front of the rear wheels on the concept), new side air intakes in addition to new door handles and mirrors.

The hybrid supercar gets some 570 horsepower from the high-performance RS Spyder-derived 4.6-liter V8 unit, mated to two electric motors, one on the front axle and the other between the mid-mounted engine and gearbox, and increasing the total output to more than 800 ponies.

Other mechanical features include four directional wheels, fully active aerodynamics and active damping.

Porsche’s hoping the 918 Spyder turns out to be the most technologically advanced supercar in the world, rivaling Ferrari’s second-generation Enzo and McLaren’s F1 successor. It is expected to go on sale starting mid-September 2013.
