May 3, 2016 – When I was a kid, I always dreamt of becoming a matador someday; staring the animal right in the eyes, grabbing it from the horns, and taming the raging creature at close proximity till one of us surrenders… and that dream came true last weekend with the new Lamborghini Huracan LP580-2.
Lamborghini released the first Huracan in 2014 using the same standards of its previous successful models, all-wheel drive, massive engine and a whole lot of horses to go with it, 580 to be precise; which deemed to be pretty popular so far. Planning it for years, someone in Sant’Agata Bolognese had the bright idea that now would be a great time to release the rear wheel drive version of the Huracan, following the success of the 2009 Gallardo LP550-2. Thus, the Huracan LP580-2.
With its 5.2-liter V10 engine, and a loose tail, this rear wheel drive monster is guaranteed to give you massive adrenaline peaks. Rotate through the different driving modes, and you’ll find various degrees of driving pleasure: “STRADA” provides a bit of understeer, “SPORT” allows for minor oversteer, while “CORSA” is the full-on attack mode; no mistakes allowed.
Even though the Huracan LP580-2 is less powerful than its all-wheel drive brother, and not as fast because of the active traction control, it is a lot more playful, and ample more fun. It has softer damps and springs without compromising its stiffness around the corners.
Surprisingly the car was very comfortable in traffic, with its sharp 7-speed dual clutch gearbox, the car never stalled, nor “clunked”. No overheating clutch either, this Huracan could easily pass as a daily drive, if you have the patience to be stopped on every corner for pictures.
Like all Lambos, this car is guaranteed to turn heads, but it is surely not for the faint-hearted. This is the black sheep of the family, the untamable bull, It’s a wild animal on steroids. The 580-2 brings back the old school Lamborghini feel, minus the manual transmission. Perhaps this might be Lamborghini’s next bright idea.
Special thanks to the Biser3a team, Saad & Trad for giving us the opportunity to be the first to drive the car in Lebanon, and Beit Misk.
