Sure, the new Jeep Wrangler and Toyota Land Cruiser/FJ Cruiser are off-road behemoths, but they are quite expensive for the majority of people, hence why I created this list. If you want to enjoy the winter season in something affordable, then you sure as hell would want one of those to help you move around.
Jeep Cherokee XJ
Jeep prides itself on having a longstanding legacy of producing some of the best off-road machines, and the XJ generation Cherokee is a testament to Jeep’s superb work. This SUV, much like the rest in this list, can take on almost any obstacle.
Range Rover Classic
The new Range Rovers are full of electronic trickery and they’re far too complicated. Also, they’re ridiculously expensive. However, you can get a taste of the Range Rover’s off-road capabilities thanks to the fantastic first-generation model.
Suzuki Samurai
Don’t be fooled by its small size, the Suzuki Samurai is a tough little cookie. I’ve even seen one pull a Range Rover Sport out of snow. If you don’t like large SUVs and want to enjoy the off-road experience, this is the car for you.
Jeep Wrangler
You really thought I wouldn’t include a Wrangler in the list? Yeah, the new one is expensive but you can always get a used first- or second-generation Wrangler that can do a perfect job of being a total off-road monster.
Lada Niva
Russian cars are crap, except for this guy here. The Lada Niva has become some sort of a legend in the off-road community for obvious reasons. It’s also one of the cheapest SUVs you can get your hands on.
