I’m a big movie buff, I have to watch a new movie at least twice or three times a week and as a petrolhead, I have to check every car featured in every film. However, only a very few cars have left a significant impact on me. Sure, the cars in Need For Speed were nice, but they all lacked that extra something. Today, I will discuss my five favorite movie cars of all time, the cars that, seeing them on screen, have truly astonished me and had me watch the movie they starred in over and over again.
05. Dodge Charger from The Dukes of Hazzard
When I hear “The Dukes of Hazzard”, the 1969 Dodge Charger automatically pops up in my mind. Known as “The General Lee”, it starred in both the series and movie adaptation. It’s an incredibly good-looking car, famous for its orange paint, hand-painted “01” on the doors and black steel wheels.
04. Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit
It looked like any Pontiac Trans Am from 1977, but watching Burt Reynolds slide it around corners and leap over broken bridges while evading the police for hundreds of kilometers made me, and thousands of others, fall in love with this black and gold mean machine.
03. Nissan Skyline GT-R from Fast and Furious
The Nissan Skyline GT-R has always been a legendary car, and true car enthusiasts knew that even before Fast and Furious, but it was the American movie franchise that launched it into worldwide fame and made it an automotive icon. It soon began replacing Ferraris and Lamborghinis in bedroom posters following the movie’s release.
02. Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger
We’ve seen countless cars in all sorts of James Bond movies, but Aston Martin’s 1964 DB5 remains the ultimate Bond car to this day. The DB5 first starred in 1964’s Goldfinger and it has since left an incredible mark in popular culture. Many consider it “the most iconic movie car of all time”, I do too, except that there’s just one car that pips it to the top spot.
01. Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 from Gone in Sixty Seconds
The undisputed #1, the 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 from 2000’s Gone in Sixty Seconds. Randall Raines (Nicolas Cage)’s special bond with “Eleanor” and the way he drove it in the movie was just astounding. I never desired a car so much after a movie. And it wasn’t just the special bond or the driving style, it was the achingly gorgeous looks of the 67 ‘Stang. The car is so popular that Denice Halicki – owner of all rights to anything representing Gone in Sixty Seconds – had to resort, on several occasions, to legal action to protect the trademark and Eleanor’s copyrighted image.
