An exclusive track day event for Volkswagen car owners was a roaring success, with more than 120 drivers assembling to display and race their beloved cars on a professional track.
The free track day experience at the Dubai Autodrome, organized by Al Nabooda Automobiles, was open to Volkswagen owners of the Golf GTI, Golf R, Scirocco R, Scirocco 2.0 and new Beetle models.
The event hosted a range of exciting activities including ‘drifting’ in a controlled environment and two competitions exclusive to Volkswagen owners.
Islam Tamer Masoud and Ziyad Kazi were the lucky competition prize winners, landing a once in a lifetime, all expenses paid trip to Lapland in Sweden to drive the powerful Golf R on a frozen lake, courtesy of Al Nabooda Automobiles.
“I could not believe it when I found out I’d won this incredible trip to Lapland,” said Kazi. “We had a really great time at the track day and the trip to Sweden has made my year. I can’t wait to drive the Golf R on a frozen lake – it seems a whole world away from the driving conditions we face here in Dubai.”
Fuelled by the enthusiasm of drivers to try new techniques behind the wheel, Al Nabooda Automobiles continues to sponsor Drift’in Dubai, an entertainment center designed to teach vehicle handling techniques in a fun, safe and controlled environment.
Enthusiasts can drive a Golf GTI, Scirocco, Jetta or Passat and are taught essential car control skills by qualified instructors, before they have the chance to practice the technique in a safe and secure location at Dubai Festival City Mall.
“Drifting is becoming increasingly popular around the world, but it’s vitally important to keep it off the roads, and take it into a controlled and safe environment,” said Thierry Seys, General Manager of Volkswagen, Al Nabooda Automobiles.
“An activity like this emphasizes in-car control and maneuvering skills, which can be useful on any day with bad weather conditions or an emergency situation which is why we are supporting this driving experience initiative.
“Cars such as the GTI and Scirocco, Jetta and Passat are perfect to practice the car handling techniques learned.”
The Scirocco combines pure driving pleasure, quality and practicality for the roads of everyday life while the Passat redefines the benchmark for affordable luxury with innovative technology, stylish design and peerless engineering.
Drift’in Dubai, developed by UAE-based GGI Entertainment, uses a new technology called Easydrift, which make it easier to allow the vehicles to drift at low speeds, increasing the sport’s safety factor.
It also leads to advanced and exciting drifting for more experienced drivers after they have mastered a range of initial techniques taught at the school.
David Terrien, Managing Partner of GGI Entertainment added: “Driving activities are fast becoming very popular in the UAE. It’s fantastic to see one of Dubai’s leading automotive dealers, Volkswagen Dubai supporting this fun initiative to teach youngsters how to master new car handling skills in a safe environment.”
