February 1, 2015 – The 2015 Formula 1 world championship season officially kicked off this morning with the first day of the first winter test at the Jerez Circuit in Spain.
Sebastian Vettel, who joined Scuderia Ferrari, set the pace in the SF15-T as he lapped the circuit in 1 min 22.620 seconds, beating Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson by 0.157 seconds.
Nico Rosberg, who clocked an outstanding amount of laps (157), finished the day in third place and 0.486s behind Vettel’s Ferrari.
Red Bull’s morning was interrupted when smoke came out of Daniel Ricciado’s RB11, but the team was able to fix the car and rejoin the others in the afternoon, while McLaren and Fernando Alonso endured a difficult day, with the MP4-30 completing just 6 laps due to packaging issues with the new car.
