May 15, 2016 – Formula 1’s youngest driver Max Verstappen secured his first ever victory in a dramatic Spanish Grand Prix that saw the two Mercedes drivers collide and retire on the first lap.
Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg overtook pole position man Lewis Hamilton on the first corner. However, Hamilton attempted to regain the lead before Turn 4, but the German closed the door, forcing Hamilton on to the grass as they approached the braking zone. Hamilton lost control and spun sideways, collecting Rosberg, and the pair crashed out in to the gravel trap.
Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull took over the lead initially, but his team-mate Max Verstappen’s strategy worked out well as he was able to move into the lead, fend off pressure from the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen to take his maiden GP win in his first race for Red Bull.
Raikkonen completed the race in second place, followed by team-mate Sebastian Vettel and the second Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo, who suffered from a last-lap puncture but managed to cross the line in fourth place.
