Maria de Villota sustains “life-threatening” injuries after F1 test crash

Maria de Villota, a female Formula 1 test driver has sustained ‘life-threatening’ injuries after an accident at Duxford airfield this morning ahead of this weekend’s British Grand Prix.

The Spaniard collided into the back of a team transporter truck while returning to the pits after completing her first opening lap. The Marussia F1 car is said to have accelerated into the back of the truck as mechanics approached to wheel the car back for service.

De Villota was quickly transferred to a nearby hospital following treatment by trackside paramedics at the scene. Marussia will release a full statement regarding De Villota’s condition once details are known.
