Andrea Mame dies in Lamborghini Super Trofeo accident

Italian racing driver Andrea Mame has died following an accident in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race this weekend at the Paul Ricard Circuit in France.

Mame – born in Milan and CEO of the Mame Group – succumbed to his injuries after a five-car crash at the start of the race. He was 41 years old. The remaining four drivers were taken to the track’s medical centre for examination.

“On behalf of Automobili Lamborghini president and CEO Stephan Winkelmann expressed his personal sadness and extended the condolences of all the company to Andrea’s family and team,” said organisers in a statement.

“Automobili Lamborghini will be working with the circuit authorities and SRO to investigate the accident thoroughly in all its aspects.”

Andrea Mame is the second Motorsport loss this month; Allan Simonsen lost his life last weekend at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
