October 9, 2015 – Nasser Al-Attiyah claimed victory at the Rallye du Maroc today to secure the 2015 FIA Cross Country Rally drivers’ title for the second time in his career.
After Carlo Sainz’s retirement on the penultimate stage, Al-Attiyah took the lead and entered the final day 16 minutes up on nearest rival Yazeed Al-Rajhi. The X-Raid Mini driver then cruised to a comfortable win by a final margin of 16 minutes and 45 seconds.
The result means Al-Attiyah is crowned FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup champion with a 60 point gap to last year’s winner Vladimir Vasilyev.
Saudi Arabia’s Yazeed Al-Rajhi yielded the runner-up spot to fellow Toyota driver Vasilyev on the final day, but he still managed to finish on the podium after taking a fine third place.
