2014 Rally Mexico: Ogier takes second victory of the season

Sebastien Ogier secured his second victory of the season in Mexico this afternoon after a dominant performance throughout the Rally. Ogier’s only threat was Citroen driver Mads Ostberg who took the lead on SS3, but damage on his DS3 WRC put him out of contention, leaving the Volkswagen driver in a comfortable position for victory.

Jari-Matti Latvala benefited from trouble for his rivals to eventually finish second behind his teammate. Latvala was fourth after Thursday’s action, but a mechanical failure for M-Sport’s Mikko Hirvonen on Friday coupled to Ostberg’s troubles on Saturday saw the Finn move up the order.

Hyundai secured its first ever World Rally Championship podium with Thierry Neuville finishing third overall ahead of Ford Fiesta drivers Elfyn Evans and Martin Prokop.

Mikko Hirvonen completed the rally down in eighth overall ahead of Citroen’s Mads Ostberg and VW’s Andreas Mikkelsen.
