Rallye Monte Carlo 2015 – Day 1: Loeb draws first blood

January 22, 2015 – Sebastien Loeb lead the way on his one-off return to the World Rally Championship, finishing the first day of the 2015 Monte Carlo Rally, which consisted of two special stages, 13 seconds ahead of Sebastien Ogier.

The Citroen driver was the quickest man through the first stage, 30 seconds quicker than Volkswagen’s Ogier, but he lost 17 seconds to his rival and fellow countryman, who won the second special.

Ogier’s teammate Jari-Matti Latvala was best of the rest, finishing the day in third overall, 36 seconds behind the leader, while Mikko Hirvonen’s replacement at M-Sport Ford, Estonia’s Ott Tanak is an impressive fourth.

Bryan Bouffier and Robert Kubica’s 2015 campaigns started badly, with the former crashing on the second stage and the latter facing a major electrical problem in his car.
