Volkswagen Motorsport has officially unveiled its 2013 World Rally Championship challenger, the Red Bull-sponsored Polo R WRC, during a special ceremony in Monaco last Saturday.
The German car manufacturer will be targeting podium finishes in its first season with its two drivers Sebastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala; the latter having left Ford at the end of this year’s campaign.
“We are all just at the start. We have a lot of learning to do through the season and want to challenge for podium positions in 2013 so we are prepared for the 2014 season, where we want to fight for wins.” said Volkswagen Motorsport director Jost Capito.
Andreas Mikkelsen will join Ogier and Latvala as Volkswagen’s third driver, but unlike his teammates, will be tackling the championship starting from the fourth round in Portugal and onwards.
The event witnessed Latvala’s first public outing as a VW driver; the Finn also tested the Polo R WRC in Mexico last month in preparation for the first three rounds of 2013.
