Australia’s defending world champion Casey Stoner won the Spanish MotoGP on Sunday for his first win in Spain and said it was the greatest race he had ever ridden.
Yamaha’s 2010 world champion Jorge Lorenzo was second overnight while Stoner’s Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa was third in his 100th premium class race.
Pedrosa’s bid for victory ended on lap three as he dropped from first to fourth in a single corner after Stoner and Lorenzo passed him on the inside and Hayden on the outside.
Dovizioso came home in fifth ahead of Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista and the LCR Honda of Stefan Bradl.
Hayden, who fought for a podium position early on in the race, finished eighth, one place ahead of team-mate Valentino Rossi.
Rossi was never a real threat as he lingered on the brink of the top 10, finishing his race in 9th, closely followed by Hector Barbera on the Ducati in 10th.
