Jari-Matti Latvala secured his first victory with Volkswagen Motorsport this afternoon in Greece during the 2013 Acropolis Rally that saw several top drivers fall back on the first day following mechanical trouble.
Latvala inherited the lead from Evgeny Novikov on Saturday’s morning loop and maintained control for the remainder of the rally to clinch victory by almost 2 minutes from Citroen driver Dani Sordo.
Thierry Neuville picked up his second podium of the season by finishing third overall ahead of Andreas Mikkelsen who had to fight hard for fourth with Nasser Al-Attiyah during the final stages of the rally; the Qatari settled in fifth after a very smooth and composed drive.
Mads Ostberg ultimately finished sixth ahead of Mikko Hirvonen who ended up seventh, with championship leader Sebastien Ogier crossing the line in 10th behind ninth-placed Novikov.
