2013 Monte Carlo Rally: Loeb takes the win!

Sebastien Loeb took the first win of the 2013 World Rally Championship season and his seventh in Monte Carlo as the final two stages of the rally were cancelled due to worsening weather conditions and heavy traffic on local roads.

The overall standings therefore were taken from SS16, with Loeb taking the win for Citroen ahead of Sebastien Ogier in the Volkswagen, while the other two Citroens of Dani Sordo and Mikko Hirvonen came in third and fourth respectively.

Ogier’s Volkswagen teammate Jari-Matti Latvala was forced to retire from fifth place on Saturday afternoon after he went off the road.

It was a weekend to forget for M-Sport Ford as both Evgeny Novikov and Juho Hanninen crashed out on the final day; the former was challenging Dani Sordo for the last podium spot.

Mads Ostberg was the only points finisher for Ford as he crossed the line in sixth place behind Bryan Bouffier who claimed fifth place on his WRC debut.
