Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton secured his second consecutive victory of the 2014 Formula 1 season in a breathtaking race at the Bahrain Internatoinal Circuit. Hamilton overtook his pole-snatching teammate Nico Rosberg at the start of the race and overcame a great scrap for the lead with the German to cross the finish line first.
Hamilton created an 8-second gap during the second stint after pitting for softs, while Rosberg was on mediums. However, the Briton’s gap was erased when the safety car came out following a big incident involving Lotus’ Pastor Maldonado and Sauber’s Esteban Gutierrez.
For their final stints, Hamilton pitted for mediums and Rosberg for softs, but the latter could not get past his teammate with 10 laps remaining. The 2008 World Champion eventually crossed the finish line first, 1 second ahead of Rosberg.
Force India’s Sergio Perez completed the podium after a fantastic race, while Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo climbed his way from 13th on the grid to an impressive fourth.
The Ferrari pair of Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen struggled; they ultimately finished ninth and tenth respectively as both McLaren drivers retired from the race with mechanical issues.
