It’s official! The all-new BMW M3 and M4 will receive around 430 horsepower and more than 500 Nm of torque from their 3.0-liter turbocharged Inline-Six engines, the Bavarian premium automaker has revealed.
Contrary to popular belief, the new sports cars will be available with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, while a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission will be offered as an option.
Despite the power increase, the new S55 engine is 25 percent more fuel efficient than the 4.0-liter V8 on the E90/E92 M3. BMW mentions they were able to lower the M3 Sedan’s weight to less than 1,500 kg.
The German brand might also brink back the CSL moniker as BMW M division chief Freidrich Nitschke hinted at an even lighter version of the M3/M4, tipping the scales at around 1,400 kg thanks to several weight-saving techniques.
