2014 BMW M3 engine revealed in spy shots

Bad news for E92 lovers, but quite the contrary for those still clinching onto the E46 generation because the sixth-generation M3, codenamed F30, will drop the V8 engine seen on the current E92 for a more traditional inline-six setup instead.

The decision comes as no surprise, with most companies forced to downsize their engines due to stringent emission regulations. In order to preserve the V8’s power output, BMW installed two turbos (photos below show two pipes feeding the intercooler). We’re not sure if BMW is hiding a third turbo as well.

The new F30 M3 is expected to make its worldwide debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and should go on sale later that same year as a 2014 model year. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures below.
