2014 Japanese Grand Prix Race Results

Lewis Hamilton secured his first ever race victory at the Suzuka Circuit during Japanese Grand Prix this morning after beating his Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg in an extremely wet race that ended prematurely following a heavy accident for Marussia’s Jules Bianchi whose condition remains unknown after being moved to the hospital center.

The race started behind the Safety Car thanks to the extreme weather conditions, but as the racing began, Hamilton closed in on his pole-sitting team mate but couldn’t get close enough to overtake until they switched from full wets to intermediate tyres. Rosberg struggled on the intermediates which helped Hamilton to move past and pull away.

With 7 laps to go, Jules Bianchi went off at Turn 7 where marshals were recovering Adrian Sutil’s crashed car. Bianchi was immediately moved to the medical center after being knocked unconscious.

Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel rounded out the podium ahead of team mate Daniel Ricciardo and McLaren’s Jenson Button who was the first to pit for intermediates and benefit as a result.

Fernando Alonso couldn’t compete in the race after his Ferrari failed him early on, while his team mate Kimi Raikkonen settled for P12 after a very lengthy pit stop.
