2014 Malaysian Grand Prix Results: Hamilton heads Mercedes 1-2

Lewis Hamilton dominated the second round of the 2014 Formula 1 Championship at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia to score Mercedes’ second victory of the season ahead of his teammate and Australian Grand Prix winner Nico Rosberg.

Nico Rosberg successfully defended his second place from Sebastian Vettel to finish 7 seconds ahead of the World Championship who settled for third, while teammate Daniel Ricciardo had a disastrous race, with his team failing to secure his front left tyre properly during the Australian’s stop on Lap 40; his race got worse as his front wing broke off. He retired shortly afterwards.

Fernando Alonso finished a smooth race in fourth place ahead of Nico Hulkenberg whose two-stop strategy failed to pay off, forcing him to surrender to Alonso with 2 laps to go till the end of race.

Kimi Raikkonen’s race was to forget as he suffered from a flat tyre at the start of the race following contact with McLaren’s Kevin Magnussen, to finish 12th.
