2014 Singapore Grand Prix Race Results

Lewis Hamilton moved into the lead of the 2014 drivers’ championship after claiming a superb victory in Singapore on Sunday, as Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg failed to finish.

Hamilton, who started on pole, lead the way at the start whereas team mate Rosberg had to start from the pits due to an electronic glitch on his Mercedes. However, as the Safety Car came out halfway into the race due to debris on track after Sergio Perez’s front wing had fallen off due to a collision with Adrian Sutil, Hamilton stayed out on the faster supersoft tyres while his rivals Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso pit for fresh softs.

This initially gave his rivals an advantage, but Hamilton successfully pulled a good-enough gap to pit for soft tyres and rejoin just behind Sebastian Vettel with a few laps till the end of the race. The British driver then overtook his German rival and cruised to his seventh victory this season to take the championship lead as Nico Rosberg eventually retired.

Sebastian Vettel fended off his team mate Daniel Ricciardo to take his best result of the season in second place, while the Australian settled for third ahead of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and Williams’ Felipe Massa.
