Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheets in Friday’s opening practice in Barcelona after a late surge put him ahead of Jenson Button in the upgraded McLaren.
Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo was third fastest, just a tenth behind Button, but his team mate Sebastian Vettel sat out the majority of the session after pulling to a halt on track due to electrical problems on his RB10. Fernando Alonso was fourth for Ferrari.
