Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap in the Qualifying session for the 2014 Spanish Grand Prix to secure 35th career pole position and his 4th this season. The Mercedes driver struggled to find the right setup throughout Qualifying, but a mega lap at the end saw him steal P1 from his teammate Nico Rosberg who settled for second.
Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo was a full second slower than the fastest Mercedes and ended up third, while teammate Sebastian Vettel failed to post a laptime after his car ground to a halt at the start of Q3.
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean took a surprising fifth place ahead of Ferrari duo Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso who struggled for pace.
