Amid Marussia and Caterham’s absence, Lewis Hamilton made a promising start to this weekend’s race in the United States, topping the timesheet in FP1 on Friday, a quarter of a second ahead of Mercedes team mate and title rival Nico Rosberg.
Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat was an impressive fourth, sandwiched by the McLarens of Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen, while Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso settled for P6 ahead of the Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel.
