Jari-Matti Latvala has crashed out of the final round of the 2014 World Rally Championship in Wales this morning after overshooting a braking point in the tenth special stage.
Latvala was in the hunt for victory as he was only 6.6 seconds behind his leading team mate Sebastien Ogier after yesterday’s eight special stages, but his error now puts M-Sport Ford’s Mikko Hirvonen in second place, closely followed by Citroen’s Kris Meeke.
In WRC2, Nasser Al-Attiyah’s title chances took a huge hit when transmission problems in his Ford Fiesta RRC saw him drop to 8th place yesterday. The Qatari will need to finish in the top 7 to secure the title.
