March 14, 2015 – Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton claimed his 39th career pole position during qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix, the opening round of the 2015 Formula 1 season.
Hamilton went around the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit in 1 minute 26.327 seconds, to beat his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, who settled for second, by 6 tenths of a second.
Felipe Massa was best of the rest for Williams, qualifying third fastest ahead of the two Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, with team-mate Valtteri Bottas sixth.
Daniel Ricciardo will start the race from seventh in the Red Bull, followed by Carlos Sainz in the Toro Rosso and the two Lotuses of Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado.
McLaren had a disastrous session as Kevin Magnussen qualified dead last, right behind his team-mate Jenson Button who ended up 17th.
