September 11, 2015 – Volkswagen’s Jari-Matti Latvala lead the way at the end of an interesting first day in Rally Australia that saw both Citroen’s Kris Meeke and Hyundai’s Dani Sordo lead early on.
Dani Sordo went quickest on the first three special stages (SS1-SS3) to take first place, but it was Kris Meeke who inherited the lead after Sordo lost time in the remaining stages.
Jari-Matti Latvala won three of the day’s special stages (SS5-SS7) which catapulted him to the lead, while Kris Meeke dropped back to second place overall, ahead of Sebastien Ogier, who started closing on the leaders.
Ogier won the day’s eighth and final special stage, while Meeke went quickest of all in the fourth special.
In WRC2, Qatar’s Nasser Al-Attiyah leads from 11th overall and holds a comfortable 50-second gap over Ukrainian driver Yuriy Protasov.
