October 23, 2015 – Volkswagen’s Sebastien Ogier finished the first full day of competition in Rally Spain on top of the timesheet as the lead changed on several occasions today.
After winning the first special stage yesterday (SS1), Ogier maintained first place at the end of today’s opening stage (SS2), but a quick Robert Kubica snatched the lead on SS3. However, two punctures for the Polish driver in SS5 handed first place back to Ogier, who then lost it to his teammate Jari-Matti Latvala in SS6.
Latvala led the way from SS6 until SS8, before Ogier retook the top spot in today’s final stage (SS9), finishing the first day 4 seconds ahead of Latvala, while M-Sport Ford’s Ott Tanak lies third, a further 7 seconds adrift.
In WRC 2, Pontus Tidemand leads ahead of Jan Kopecky, while title rivals Esapekka Lappi and Nasser Al-Attiyah enter the second day of competition in third and fourth places respectively.
