February 27, 2015 – Audi has revealed the second-generation R8 sports car ahead of its first public appearance at the Geneva Motor Show 2015 next week.
The 2016 R8 will come in two variations: V10 and V10 plus. Both are powered by a 5.2-liter V10 engine, with the former producing 540 horsepower and the latter 610 horsepower, making it the most powerful model in the company’s history.
The range-topping V10 plus model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and keeps going to its maximum speed of 330 km/h. A 7-speed S tronic transmission and a newly developed quattro drive system transmit the power to the road.
The R8 V10 plus has a dry weight of 1,454 kilograms. Despite a lot of extra equipment and greater rigidity, the new Audi R8 weighs up to 50 kilograms less than its predecessor thanks in the most part to the multimaterial Audi Space Frame (ASF) which uses a combination of aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced plastics.
