April 3, 2016 – Nico Rosberg secured his second consecutive win of the season and extended his championship lead after a commanding performance in the Bahrain Grand Prix this afternoon.
Rosberg took the lead at the start of the race, whilst Lewis Hamilton dropped to eighth after being hit by the Williams of Valtteri Bottas – who got a drive through penalty for causing the collision – on the first corner.
The winner was unchallenged throughout the race, finishing 10 seconds ahead of Kimi Raikkonen’s Ferrari, whose team-mate Sebastian Vettel couldn’t take the start of the race as he suffered from a mechanical problem on the formation lap.
Lewis Hamilton recovered to finish third, ahead Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo in fourth and Haas’ Romain Grosjean, who rounded out the top 5. Stoffel Vandoorne gave McLaren its first points this season by finishing tenth on his Formula 1 debut.
Rosberg’s fifth win in a row, going back to Mexico last year, gives him a 17-point title lead over Hamilton.
