July 14, 2016 – With three out of four 2016 Lebanese Rally Championship rounds now out of the way, we can have a better look at the championship standings ahead of Rally of Lebanon, after which everything should be decided. But before you delve into the points, you should know that points earned in the Lebanese Hill Climb Championship (in non-prototype cars) are also included in the Lebanese Rally Championship, but only the best two of three Hill Climb results will count.

The calculation (published by the ATCL) shows that Roger Feghali is the one leading the overall championship standings with 234 points, while Tamer Ghandour is 2nd, 33 points behind – hurt by his retirement in the Cedars Rally.
Eddy Abou Karam’s consistency puts him 3rd in the overall standings and 1st in Group N, whilst Roger Feghali is 2nd in the category and 37 points off the lead. Eddy benefits from Hill Climb points as he competes on a Group N Mitsubishi Evo, whereas Roger drives a Prototype Evo. Rabih Ayoub is 3rd in the category, 36 points behind Roger and in need of 73 points to catch Eddy.

Bassel Abou Hamdan is 6th overall and leads the RC3 category, but he’s under pressure from Rony Kanaan, who recently won the RC3 class in Cedars Rally, as both are separated by 16 points. Walid Chlink is a distant third in the category.

There are still plenty of points up for grabs as the season reaches its halfway point with two Hill Climbs and Rally of Lebanon left. It’s worth mentioning that Rally of Lebanon is “two rallies in one”, with points available on Day 1 and Day 2, separately.
