May 29, 2016 – Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton scored his first victory of the 2016 season in an exciting Monaco Grand Prix that kicked off on a wet track behind the safety car after it had rained prior to the race.
Hamilton benefited from a one-stop strategy, switching from extreme wets to slicks as the track dried, while pole-sitter Daniel Ricciardo had to stop for intermediates initially and then switch to slicks.
Ricciardo lost the lead in his second stop after a costly pit lane error from his team, and he eventually had to settle for second place after being unable to move past Hamilton.
Sergio Perez rounded out the podium in the Force India as he put a good strategy to use, while Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel crossed the line in fourth place, ahead of Fernando Alonso in the McLaren.
Nico Hulkenberg overtook Nico Rosberg on the finish straight of the last lap to steal 6th place as rain began to fall once again.
