2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Final Results

June 25, 2017 – Red Bull’s Daniel Riccirado claimed his first victory in the 2017 Formula 1 world championship season in a chaotic race in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku.

Pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton looked set for victory, but a loose headrest forced him to enter the pits and have it changed, while Sebastian Vettel, who was running 2nd at the time, received a stop/go penalty for deliberately hitting Hamilton’s car behind the safety car. Vettel was furious as Hamilton tried to back the field up,  which resulted in contact between the two, and led to Vettel’s actions.

Hamilton’s mishap and Vettel’s penalty gave Daniel Riccirado the lead of the race; he then cruised to a comfortable victory.

Vettel and Hamilton ended up 4th and 5th respectively, while Valtteri Bottas, who dropped to last place on the first lap of the race following contact with Kimi Raikkonen, made a fantastic comeback and a last-second overtake on Lance Stroll to claim 2nd as the latter settled for 3rd place – his first ever podium.

The race featured several safety car periods and a red flag that halted the race due to debris on the circuit.
