2018 Audi Innovation Award Theme Announced

Dubai,12 February 2018 – The theme ‘Connections’ has been announced for the third Audi Innovation Award. The competition, led by Audi Middle East in partnership with Dubai Design Week, aims to empower regional designers while archiving intellectual progress in the region.

Designers in the Middle East are invited to submit entries in response to the brief via https://audiinnovationaward.com/ to be in line for a once in a lifetime opportunity of mentoring, publicity and investment in the winning concept, as well as a trip to visit the Audi headquarters in Ingolstadt, Germany.

The Audi Innovation Award roots its themes in Audi’s brand values and vision for the future. One of those is the development of smart cities and the connectivity that helps to anticipate the needs of drivers. The third Audi Innovation Award theme ‘Connections’ honours this focus, and challenges designers across the Middle East to put their minds to imagining how innovation might improve daily lives when two or more entities are encouraged to connect.

The winner of the 2017 award, for his project ‘EZ Move’, Jamal Alsharkas interpreted the theme of ‘Autonomy’ into a self-sustaining, innovative idea that could change lives by offering the freedom to move around cities for those with physical challenges. ‘EZ Move’ addresses a solution for those with mobility challenges, the elderly and the visually impaired by offering freedom of movement, freedom of choice and the dignity of being in control of one’s own destination.

Enrico Atanasio, Brand Director of Audi Middle East, commented; “Every year the Audi Innovation Award fascinates us with the amount of talent and creativity that there is in the region. The Audi brand represents progressiveness and stylish design. This award is an extension of our brand and we are dedicated to inspiring a new generation of designers for the future.”

The three shortlisted candidates will be given $2,500 to present their concepts at Dubai Design Week (12-17 November) 2018. The overall winning design will include a trophy and a trip to the Audi factory in Ingolstadt, Germany to experience the automotive design journey at the company’s headquarters. In addition, Audi Middle East will award $25,000 worth of consultancy to the winner to cover items such as IP registration, legal counselling and business development. The brand with the four rings will also work closely with their partners at Dubai Design Week to provide design advice and mentoring to develop and protect the winning idea.
