Launched in 1980, the R80 G/S broke convention with its 798cc boxer engine and hefty 400-pound frame, departing from the typical lightweight, single-cylinder off-road bikes of the time. The R80 G/S quickly made its mark, winning the grueling Paris-Dakar Rally four times, solidifying the birth of the adventure bike category. Today, the 2026 R12 G/S pays homage to this legend while bringing significant upgrades.
The R12 G/S is powered by a 1170cc air/oil-cooled boxer engine, generating 109 horsepower and 85 lb-ft of torque, enabling a 0-60 mph time of just 4.1 seconds and a top speed of over 124 mph. It’s designed to tackle both highways and off-road trails, with a larger 21-inch front wheel and a 6-speed manual transmission that delivers power via shaft drive. The G/S also includes advanced off-road features like Enduro riding mode, adjustable suspension, and a high-mounted exhaust.
For serious off-road enthusiasts, the Enduro Package Pro boosts ground clearance to 10 inches and adds off-road tires, aluminum engine guard, and hand protectors. The Premium Package enhances comfort with cruise control, heated grips, and a quick shifter.
