Revamped Tiguan Turbo Arrives with Bold Power Upgrade
Volkswagen is turning up the heat on its compact SUV lineup with the arrival of the 2026 Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo, the most powerful U.S. Tiguan yet. Making its debut following the 2025 New York Auto Show, this performance-focused trim crowns the newly redesigned third-generation Tiguan, which itself launches as a 2025 model.
Under the hood is the North American debut of VW’s EA888 evo5 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, producing a robust 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque—67 hp more than the base model. Key engine upgrades include a larger turbo, reinforced pistons, and advanced variable valve timing, all aimed at delivering quicker acceleration with less turbo lag.
Built on the lighter MQB evo platform, the 2026 Tiguan Turbo offers improved fuel efficiency, continues to run on regular fuel, and boasts updated styling with a muscular stance, LED light bar, and a black roof. The Turbo trim also features bigger brakes, standard AWD, and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, a sleek gear selector on the column frees up console space, while paddle shifters, a 15-inch center screen, and Harman Kardon audio elevate the experience. Luxury touches include ventilated, massaging front seats, heated rear seats, and a head-up display.

The SEL R-Line Turbo is designed to attract GTI fans ready for more room without sacrificing sporty vibes. Pricing will be revealed before its fall launch, replacing the current SEL R-Line trim in the lineup.
