Volvo’s highly anticipated 2026 ES90 electric sedan is set to be fully unveiled on March 5, after a teaser release in September. The upcoming model represents the brand’s push towards software-defined vehicles, with a focus on enhancing both the driving experience and safety through advanced technology.
Central to the ES90’s design is Volvo’s “Superset tech stack,” which combines a set of software and hardware modules aimed at enabling more frequent and efficient over-the-air updates. These updates are expected to improve vehicle performance, enhance connectivity features, and potentially extend the sedan’s driving range.
The ES90 will be built on Volvo’s SPA2 platform, which it shares with the EX90 electric SUV. This architecture enables Volvo to implement updates across both models simultaneously. Given that the ES90 shares its platform with the EX90, it will likely feature the same 111.0-kWh battery pack, though its smaller size may offer a slight increase in range compared to the EX90’s estimated 300–310 miles.
The ES90 will sit alongside the gas-powered S90 in Volvo’s lineup, representing a key step in the brand’s transition to an all-electric future. Further details on pricing, powertrain options, and additional technologies will be revealed during the official launch next month.
