2027 Scout Terra: Electric Pickup with 350-Mile Range

The 2027 Scout Terra blends classic design with electric power, offering up to 350 miles of range and impressive off-road capabilities.

Scout Motors, Volkswagen’s new American division, is reviving the iconic Scout name with a modern twist. Alongside the Traveler SUV, Scout is introducing the Terra, an electric pickup truck designed for utility and adventure. While inspired by the original International-Harvester Scout, the Terra brings a fresh, modern design, equipped with cutting-edge electric technology.

The Terra boasts a stylish look, featuring a flat hood, four-door crew cab, and a 5.5-foot bed. Its aggressive off-road stance is highlighted by a large skid plate, rectangular marker lights, and the classic Scout script, creating a bold yet nostalgic appearance. With dimensions similar to the Ford F-150, the Terra is a full-sized truck built for both work and play.

Sharing the same platform as the Traveler, the Terra is designed with rugged body-on-frame construction and a live rear axle, ensuring durability and strength. Its electric powertrain features a two-motor setup, delivering nearly 1,000 lb-ft of torque, which can launch the truck to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. The Terra offers a payload capacity of around 2,000 lbs and can tow up to 10,000 lbs, making it a capable workhorse.

Off-road enthusiasts will appreciate the Terra’s advanced features, including mechanical locking differentials, a disconnecting front sway bar, and an air-spring suspension with adaptive dampers. The truck can accommodate 35-inch tires and boasts over a foot of ground clearance, allowing it to traverse rugged terrain and wade through nearly three feet of water.

With a range of up to 350 miles on a single charge, the Terra offers practicality for both everyday driving and long adventures. For those seeking extra range, Scout will offer an optional gasoline-fueled range extender, aptly named Harvester, which boosts the range to 500 miles. The truck supports 800-volt fast charging with up to 350 kW, and its bi-directional charging capability allows it to power other devices or vehicles.

The interior of the Terra is a blend of retro design and modern tech. Bright, 1970s-inspired colors and two digital screens are paired with physical dials and buttons, ensuring a tactile user experience. The dashboard features a fun nod to the past with a video rendition of the ribbon-style speedometer from old Scouts. Additionally, a front bench seat and a physical compass add to the nostalgic charm.
