7 crazy 1000hp+ supercars from the Geneva Motor Show

March 4, 2016 – The Geneva Motor Show is one of the most anticipated shows every year for car enthusiasts, not just because automakers use it to launch all-new models, but because it is infested with absurdly fast super- and hypercars. Fortunately, the 2016 edition of the Swiss motor show delivered, as it witnessed an array of some of the craziest cars we’ve ever seen. Here are seven of the wildest, each with more than 1,000 horsepower:

Bugatti-Chiron

Bugatti Chiron

It’s the successor to the famous Veyron, and it’s better in almost every way: prettier, more powerful and faster. Chiron develops 1,500 horsepower and 1,600 Nm of torque from an 8.0-liter W16 quad-turbocharged engine. It can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.5 seconds and reach a “limited” top speed of 420 km/h.

Arash-AF10

Arash AF10

Arash is a low-profile small sportscar manufacturer from England, but they made quite a scene when they unveiled the AF10 supercar, which packs a massive 2,080 horsepower – with 900 of those coming from a 6.2-liter supercharged V8, while four electric motors produce 1,180 hp. 0 to 100 km/h can be achieved in 2.8 seconds, before topping out at 323 km/h.

Techrules GT96

Techrules AT96 and GT96

China-based Techrules unveiled two ridiculous electric supercars in Geneva: the AT96 and GT96 TREV, both of which are powered by six electric motors. Peak output is 1,030 hp, and torque is projected to exceed 8,600 Nm. The track-oriented AT96 runs on aviation kerosene, while its softer, road-friendlier sister, the GT96 TREV runs on biogas or natural gas. Both cars can exceed 350 km/h and sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds. Techrules says the electric hypercars have a maximum driving range of over 1985 kilometers, which, if true, is quite groundbreaking.

Apollo-Arrow

Apollo Arrow

You might be familiar with the Gumpert Apollo supercar; well, Gumpert went bankrupt, but the company has been revived and renamed Apollo thanks to Chinese investors, and this is their latest offering: the Apollo Arrow, featuring a highly-modified twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter Audi V8 engine that makes 1,000 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque. Arrow should be able to go from 0 to 100 km/h in under 2.9 seconds and manage a top speed of 354 km/h.

Zenvo TS1

Zenvo TS1 and TSR

Danish supercar manufacturer Zenvo introduced two evolutions of their ST1 model: the TS1 and TSR; both have 1,104 horsepower and 1,430 Nm of torque from a twin-turbocharged 6.8-liter V8 engine. The TS1 is the road-going version, while TSR was designed for the racetrack.

Rimac-Concept-One

Rimac Concept One

Only 8 of these will be built, according to the Croatian company Rimac. Concept One is powered by four electric motors that, combined, produce 1,073 horsepower and 1,600 Nm of torque; it also features four gearboxes, one for each wheel. On a single charge, Concept One can be driven for 330 kilometers.

Koenigsegg-Regera

Koenigsegg Regera

Koenigsegg showed us the production version of the Regera in Geneva this week. It hides a 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that and three electric motors that generate a combined output of 1,500 horsepower and 2,000 Nm of torque. Believe it or not, the Regera has no gearbox, it has a clever system dubbed “Koenigsegg Direct Drive” that uses a hydraulic coupling to connect the engine to the rear axle. Still not impressed? It has a top of 400 km/h and does 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds.
