So is Solberg going to join Ford WRC? This is the question everybody is asking. The real question should be does ford have any other chance?
After Mikko joined Citroen WRT to be alongside Loeb, Ford’s simple choice would have been Sebastian Ogier, but Ogier wanted number 1 status in a team who wants to push Jari Matti Latvala for the title. Ogier then went to VW on a long term project and left Ford with no number 2 driver. So Ford not only need another drivers, they need someone who is reliable, fast and has a minimum of experience.
Solberg is a world champion so he tics all the above, but Solberg has not been as fast as he was in his good days especially in the past 3 years as a privateer.
Ford will test Solberg ahead of Monte Carlo to see if he is ready and Solberg has made it very clear that he want to go to Ford and he wants to be in a factory team and he also dismissed all talks about forming a private Ford team with his brother Henning.
Solberg insisted that he will do his best to help the team in the championship and he said that Latvala has the potential to become a World Champion.
We don’t believe Solberg honestly and we say that he is only getting himself in the team to prove he is capable of winning and try, his last shot on a world championship. He wants to try to beat Loeb, the thing he couldn’t do on a Subaru for a long time.
