Maria De Villota has lost her right eye following her Formula 1 test crash last Tuesday and she is now in a stable but critical condition, the Marussia team said in a statement on Wednesday.
De Villota, as reported earlier, was being rolled into the pits by her mechanics after a straightline aerodynamic test when her Marussia F1 car accelerated into the back of a transporter truck.
Team boss John Booth said: “It is with great sadness that I must report that, due to the injuries she sustained, Maria has lost her right eye.”
“With regard to the accident, we have embarked on a very comprehensive analysis of what happened and this work continues for the moment.”
