Despite suffering a huge sales blow last year due to the catastrophic tsunami in Japan and floods in Thailand, the Toyota Motor Corporation is on course to regaining its spot as the world’s best-selling automaker in 2012.
The Japanese automaker managed to sell 4.97 million vehicles during the first half of the year 2012, a 34 percent increase from the same period in 2011, and some 300,000 vehicles more than second-placed General Motors, and around 520,000 ahead of the Volkswagen Group.
Toyota’s 2012 sales have exceeded expectations according to many industry analysts, and although the company might lose momentum in the second half, it will be hard for GM and VW to catch up.
