Mikko Hirvonen is on his way for a first ever victory with the Citroen World Rally Team after retaining the lead on Day 3 of Rally Italia Sardegna. The Finn enters the final day with a 1 minute 28 second cushion over second-placed Evgeny Novikov.
Mads Ostberg’s brilliant form continued, having set the pace in two stages this morning, the Norwegian managed to go fastest on SS12 and SS14 as well which moved him up from sixth to fourth in the standings.
Ostberg’s resurgence pushed Sebastien Ogier and Chris Atkinson back one position; they’re currently fifth and sixth respectively, with the latter losing his fifth on the this afternoon’s last stage.
Jari-Matti Latvala went quickest on the day’s penultimate stage; the Ford driver is seventeenth overall, while teammate Petter Solberg holds onto ninth.
