Following a teaser video last Saturday, Porsche has officially taken the wraps off its new-generation 911 GT3 Cup during the company’s “Night of Champions” celebration in Weissach.
The new race car is characterized by a new front bumper, center-mounted dual exhaust pipes, wider Michelin tires in addition to a new racing seat, an improved roll cage and a roof “rescue hatch” that allows for easy extrication of the driver after an accident.
Based on the upcoming 911 GT3 street-legal road car, the Cup features a 3.8-liter flat-six engine developing 460 horsepower, 10 hp more than the car it replaces, with power being transferred to the rear wheels via a six-speed “dog-type” transmission.
“The new 911 GT3 Cup is much easier to drive at the limit. The car is excellently balanced. The new axle geometry is enormously positive for the handling. Apart from that, the new Cup 911 is great fun to drive. said Timo Bernhard, Porsche’s works driver.
Porsche’s 911 GT3 Cup will cost 234,250 USD excluding taxes.
